AVID's Mission Statement
To close the achievement gap and to ensure that students who are “in the middle” academically and are not performing to their potential receive the intensive support needed to:
§ Succeed in rigorous curriculum
§ Complete a rigorous college preparatory path
§ Engage in extracurricular activities at the school
§ Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and graduate
§ Become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

Our History
Peary Middle School has had an AVID program since 2006. That is 15 years and counting.

Avid has been around since 1966, and today AVID is implemented in more than 7,000 schools in 47 states across the U.S., plus schools in Department of Defense Education, Canada, and Australia. AVID impacts more than 2 million students in grades K–12 and 62 postsecondary institutions.
